Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency snap top table, also known as a tilt-top table, features a circular or oval surface hinged to a central pedestal. Popularised in early 19th-century Britain, this design allowed the tabletop to tilt vertically, enabling space-saving storage against a wall when not in use.

These tables were predominantly constructed from solid and veneered mahogany, often featuring decorative crossbanding or inlaid stringing around the top. The bases typically consist of a turned central pedestal supported by three or four swept legs, fitted with brass castors and a spring-loaded brass catch or snap mechanism.

Authentic Regency examples feature hand-cut joinery, hand-carved brass catches with natural patination, and original brass castors. Look for genuine age wear on the underside, timber shrinkage consistent with two centuries of age, and hand-cut screws rather than modern uniform hardware.

A Regency tilt-top table functions as a central focal point in an entryway, a dining surface in a breakfast nook, or an occasional table in a living area. Tilting the top vertically when placed against a wall displays the rich timber grain as a piece of architectural interest.

Keep the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and air conditioning vents to prevent timber movement and finish fading. Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, ensuring the original tilt mechanism is kept clean and free from forced pressure.
