Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency breakfast table, popular from around 1810 to 1830, is characterised by a central turned pedestal resting on splayed legs and a top that tilts vertically. This tilt-top design permitted multi-functional rooms to be cleared easily by storing the table against a wall when not in use for dining.

These tables were primarily crafted from solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, prized for their rich colour and stability. The interior mechanisms utilised solid brass snap-latches and iron block hinges, while the feet frequently featured brass castors or brass paw feet.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-sawn timber undersides, original brass catch mechanisms beneath the tabletop, and natural wear patterns where the tilt pin engages. Look for genuine veneer shrinkage lines and period-correct joinery on the central pedestal support block.

A tilt-top table can serve as a primary dining table or be positioned in a tilted vertical orientation in a hallway or dining alcove to display its flame mahogany wood grain. Placing it in an open-plan room allows for easy reconfiguration depending on entertainment needs.

Maintain mahogany by dusting with a dry microfiber cloth and applying beeswax polish along the grain twice yearly. Protect the surface from heat and moisture using mats, and ensure the spring-catch tilt mechanism is supported when adjusting positions.
