Large Russian Painted Icon in Oklad,c1890

Description

Large late 19th century Russian icon,c1890. The painting is obviously sealed in the frame but looks to be an oil of Madonna and child on wood panel .The silver metal Oklad (frame)has marks that look like silver /makers marks but they are rubbed and so I cannot be sure it is silver. There is also Cyrillic script on the frame/Oklad. The Oklad is nicely decorated and is nailed to the wood panel containing the painting. The painting has rubbed and is a little indistinct but this does not detract from the overall composition and feel of the piece. The Icon is backed in material.
