Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 19th century, mahogany bookcases were typically constructed with a glazed upper section for protecting books and a solid enclosed lower cupboard for general storage. These pieces were central to library and study interiors of the Georgian, William IV, and Victorian eras.

These cabinets feature solid mahogany timber framing with figured flame mahogany veneers applied to door panels. Internal shelving is often softwood or mahogany, framed behind hand-blown clear glass panes.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail jointing, original brass locks or escutcheons, and subtle imperfections in the hand-blown glass panes. The reverse panels typically show softwoods with natural age oxidation and hand-sawn timber marks.

Position the piece as a focal point in a dining space, library, or hallway to store literature or display curated ceramics and glassware. Pairing deep timber tones with contemporary off-white or neutral wall backgrounds creates a balanced interior contrast.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent veneer movement or sun bleaching. Clean glass panels with a non-ammonia formula on a soft cloth, and nourish the mahogany surfaces periodically using a microcrystalline or beeswax polish.
