Large 19th C. German Masonic Lidded Pewter Tankard c.1880
This is a nice 19th c. masonic lidded Pewter tankard from Germany.
The tankard is engraved with the Masonic symbols within a laurel reef at the front.
At the rim and at the sides of the reef are sayings engraved in German, which read and translate as:
Dies Ist Der Zimmerer Ihre Amts Kanne = This is the Carpenter''s Lodge Tankard.
Diese Kane Hat Hans Dolzaler An Das Ehr Und Lublige Handwerk Der Zimmerer Ver-Ehrt = Hans Dolzaler honored this tankard in terms of
the Carpenters Lodge honor.
This was most probably Hans Dolzaler''s personal drinking vessel given by the Mason''s lodge to him.
The tankard has a pewter mark at the base, which is a shield with the letters E and S at either side of wine grapes and a wine barrel underneath.
