Pristine Set Of Coronation Silver-gilt Anointing Spoons Miller Brothers Birmingham 1901

A fab set of six Edwardian silver-gilt anointing spoons, the velvet and silk-lined box printed in gold lettering: ‘Coronation Souvenir KING EDWARD VII and QUEEN ALEXANDRA 1902’. The anointing spoons are Edwardian replicas of the original 13th century Coronation Anointing Spoon which is made of gold and housed in the Tower of London. In the coronation ceremony Holy oil is poured from the Ampulla, which is in the form of a gold eagle, into the spoon. The oil is then applied by the officiating Bishop or Archbishop to the new sovereigns’ head, breast and palms.
 
Condition: The set is in pristine collector’s condition, apparently unused. The box is in good condition with some scuffs.
