Technical Description
An 18th-century facet cut wine glass with a fine Tulip Bowl. Engraved with a large flower head (which has polished detailing) and other flowers and ferns. Diamond facet cut stem, on a large conical foot with snapped pontil.
Comment
We only tend to use the word ''Rare'' when the piece deserves the title and this particular glass certainly does.
The bowl form, a Tulip, is not one you will find very often, on any 18th-century wine glass...they are particularly scarce.
The engraving is even rarer and I cannot ever recall a previous example (on any form). Also, polished detailing is generally regarded as being reserved for only the finest of glasses. We think the main flower is a Dahlia.
Overall this is an exceptional glass which I doubt many will have in their collection.
Historical Relevance
Hand-blown around the time the Bank of North America, the first American commercial bank opened.
