Jane Short Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
Very finely painted, there is a story on the back of one tile in French.
Roughly translated:
"After......miniature of a panel destroyed in the fire at the town hall 1870"
Sadly we cannot make out the name of the artist and we don't know which town hall!
However these are beautiful tiles and were important to somebody.
