Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

First introduced in the mid-eighteenth century, the Pembroke table was designed as a versatile, light occasional table. Named according to tradition after the Countess of Pembroke, it features hinged side flaps that lift to expand the surface area for light meals, writing, or serving tea.

Georgian Pembroke tables were predominantly crafted from dense, fine-grained mahogany, often imported from the West Indies. Secondary woods such as pine, oak, or ash were used for drawer linings, and hardware typically consisted of cast brass handles or knobs.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer, hand-planed undersides, and original wooden fly-brackets that swing out to support the leaves. Natural shrinkage along the grain and hand-cast brass pull fittings also indicate period construction.

A Pembroke table functions as a sofa end table, bedside table, or hall table. Position it with flaps lowered to save space, or raise one or both leaves beside seating to display books, lighting, or decorative objects.

Keep mahogany furniture away from direct sunlight, radiators, and air vents to prevent timber movement or bleaching. Apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing with a soft cotton cloth along the direction of the grain.
