Description

Bidjar is a major weaving town in West Persia which has been populated by Kurdish people for centuries. Bidjar carpets are admired for their rugged hardwearing structure and their wonderful dyes. This carpet is no exception. The colours are harmonious and well balanced, note the lovely terracotta field and pale blue spandrels. The design shows the talent of the Kurdish weavers, so expressively drawn. This is a great piece, ideal for a dining room or, for that matter, for anywhere in a smart country house. This carpet dates to the last quarter of the 19th century, and has a well-worn pile which remains in good condition.
