Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An ormolu mounted display cabinet, traditionally termed a vitrine, is a glazed storage piece decorated with gilded bronze cast ornaments. Emerging prominently in 18th-century France, these cabinets were crafted to showcase porcelain, silver, and decorative curios behind glass panels.

Traditional French vitrines feature fine hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or kingwood, often enhanced with marquetry or parquetry. The decorative mounts are cast in bronze and gilded using gold amalgam (ormolu), paired with clear glass panels.

Authentic neoclassical cabinets display symmetrical proportions, fluted columns, urn finials, and laurel wreath motifs. High-quality period mounts feature crisp chased details on the gilded bronze surfaces and are secured with hand-cut screws rather than modern fixings.

Place the vitrine in a dining room, drawing room, or hallway to serve as a focal point. Balance the ornate exterior by curating minimalist ceramics, art glass, or bound books within the illuminated glass shelves.

Dust gilt bronze mounts softly with a dry brush, avoiding metal polishes which remove gilding. Preserve the wood finish with regular application of beeswax, and position the cabinet away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking.
