Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian upholstered seating is characterised by dark, carved hardwood frames, typically in mahogany, walnut, or rosewood. Designs frequently incorporate button-tufted backrests, padded scrolled arms, cabriole or turned legs, and opulent woven fabrics such as brocade, damask, or velvet.

Traditional Victorian settees feature solid timber frames, hand-tied steel coil springs, natural jute webbing, and fillings such as horsehair, coconut fibre, or wool felt. Upholstery fabrics historically included silk damasks, wool velours, and heavy cotton brocades.

Authentic Victorian pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, evidence of hand-carving irregularities, original iron or brass castors, and period-appropriate webbing inside the seat base. Frame timber usually shows natural ageing and patination on unexposed undersides.

A Victorian settee functions as a statement piece when contrasted against neutral walls and contemporary lighting. Placing it in an entrance hall, bay window, or living area alongside modern minimalist accent pieces balances historical texture with contemporary layout designs.

Wood frames should be dusted with a soft cloth and conditioned periodically using beeswax polish, avoiding silicone spray cleaners. Fabric upholstery requires light vacuuming with a soft brush attachment and immediate spot-cleaning with a dry solvent or professional upholstery cleaner.
