Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III style chest of drawers dates design-wise to the reign of King George III in Britain, characterised by neoclassical proportions, fine mahogany timber, brass swan-neck or bail handles, and sturdy bracket feet. These pieces often feature graduated drawers and occasional functional additions like pull-out brushing slides.

Primary exteriors were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcasses. Secondary timbers for drawer linings included oak or pine, joined with hand-cut dovetails and fitted with cast brass hardware.

Authentic period pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-sawn timber marks on the back panels, natural shrinkage to the wood over time, and original cast brass hardware showing gentle oxidisation. The drawer bases often feature pine or oak boards running front-to-back or side-to-side depending on the exact era.

Position the piece against a neutral wall to allow the rich timber grain to contrast cleanly, layering contemporary artwork or a simple ceramic lamp above it. Combining dark mahogany with light linen textiles and modern decorative accents creates a balanced, curated aesthetic.

Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year using a soft cloth, buffing along the grain to preserve the patination. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement, drying, or colour fading.
