Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, particularly in Western Europe and the Netherlands, the bureau bookcase combined a writing desk with upper storage. Complex floral marquetry gained prominent fashion during this era, decorating surfaces with detailed wood veneers.

These pieces were typically constructed with solid oak carcasses covered in fine walnut veneers. Marquetry patterns utilized contrasting fruitwoods, sycamore, holly, or boxwood, secured with animal hide glue and fitted with cast brass handles and escutcheon plates.

Authentic pieces display hand-sawn dovetail drawer joints, irregular underside saw marks, and natural wood shrinkage along the grain. The marquetry inlay often shows mild surface unevenness and fine age craquelure in the original varnish finish.

Place the piece as a focal anchor along a neutral wall to highlight the detailed woodwork. It functions effectively in a dedicated study, formal living space, or wide hallway alongside modern minimalist decor or contemporary artwork.

Keep the item in a stable environment away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer lifting or fading. Apply high-grade beeswax polish sparingly twice a year to nourish the wood and protect the original patination.
