Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A convex mirror, often referred to as a bullseye or fisheye mirror, features curved glass bulging outwards to reflect a wide-angle perspective. These mirrors became popular in late 18th-century and Regency-era interiors across Europe, served both as decorative accent pieces and as practical mirrors allowing servants to observe a room discreetly.

Traditional Regency convex mirrors were constructed using turned mahogany or carved gilded timber frames, complemented by cast brass beaded slips, metal mounts, and hand-blown curved glass plates. The reflective glass backing was historically applied using a mercury or silvering process.

Authentic period examples often display hand-turned timber detailing, minor irregularities in the curved glass plate, and natural oxidisation on brass components. Reproduction pieces frequently feature lightweight modern composite woods, uniform machine-stamped metal fittings, and modern clear mirror glass.

A convex mirror works effectively as a central accent above a fireplace mantelpiece, over a hallway console table, or incorporated into a gallery wall display. The curved glass reflects natural light while the warm wood tones add balance and depth to modern neutral colour schemes.

Maintain timber and metal surfaces by dusting regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding abrasive chemical polishes that can degrade historical patinas. Clean the glass plate by applying a small amount of glass cleaner directly to a cloth rather than spraying the frame.
