Victorian Mahogany Surgeons Box.
This rare surgeons box dates back to c. 1891. It’s brassbound and Solid Mahogany. It has been relined with hand crafted marble paper making it a perfect men’s jewellery box.
What makes it so special is the plaque to the top showing it’s history, “Presented by a few friends to William Francis Esq senior house surgeon as a mark of esteem and in remembrance of his ten years connection with the West Ham hospital & dispensary, 11th December 1891”. It appears to be a leaving gift for a much loved surgeon.
The box has its makers label to the inside of ‘S Maw son & Thompson London ‘
It has a working lock and key.
Open the surgeons box to reveal several sections and a tray to keep cuff links, watches, rings and necklaces ,The box is in wonderful original condition.
It measures 40 by 17 and stands 9 cm high.
