Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Arts and Crafts furniture is defined by its focus on traditional handcraftsmanship, simple geometric forms, and minimal surface ornamentation. Arising in the late nineteenth century as a movement against mass industrial production, it emphasises exposed joinery and high-quality natural hardwoods.

Solid hardwoods, particularly English oak, were the predominant choice due to their strength and prominent grain patterns. Construction typically featured traditional mortise and tenon joints, hand-turned spindles, and simple clear wax or dark stain finishes.

Authentic pieces feature robust solid wood construction without modern veneer or hidden composition board. Look for functional structural elements like pegged joints, straight or subtly tapered spindle backs, and unadorned silhouettes.

Place a single chair as an accent piece in a hallway, bedroom alcove, or alongside a simple writing desk. The rich timber tones contrast effectively with neutral walls and contemporary textiles.

Regularly dust the surface using a clean, dry microfibre cloth to prevent dirt build-up. Apply a thin layer of natural beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain moisture in the timber, avoiding direct sunlight and radiator heat sources.
