Tinsel Picture 19th Century Mr Smith As The Pirate Of The Black Sea

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Rams Head Antiques

This is a really charming early Victorian tinsel picture in nice original condition dating from around 1840. The picture depicts the Georgian actor Mr Smith as The Pirate of The Black Sea. The hand coloured print is embellished with colourful sequins and foil to his fine jacket and hat with gold metal enamelled foil to his flintlock pistol, epaulets and shoe buckles.

These antique tinsel pictures were popular in the early 19th century but are becoming increasingly hard to find now. This is a really good example and one of four of these we have recently acquired from a small collection. This is a really good example with a great subject and is in its original parcel gilt frame that suits it perfectly.

The frame measures 30 cms by 27 cms
