Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A longcase clock, also known as a tall-case or grandfather clock, is a tall, free-standing, weight-driven clock mechanism housed within a wooden cabinet. Popularised in the late 17th century, these horological pieces were engineered to enclose the long pendulum and falling weights required for accurate timekeeping.

Georgian longcase clocks were typically constructed with solid oak or pine secondary timbers, veneered in rich mahogany or walnut, and frequently decorated with wood marquetry and boxwood stringing. Dials transitioned from brass to hand-painted sheet iron, accompanied by weight-driven iron movements and brass gears.

Authentic period longcase clocks feature hand-cut joinery, irregular dovetails, and natural wood shrinkage lines along cabinet joints. Dials usually display hand-engraved or hand-painted numerals, regional clockmaker signatures, and unrefined cast brass internal clockwork components.

An antique longcase clock provides a strong vertical anchor in an entrance hallway, stairwell landing, or dining room. Placing warm mahogany wood against neutral wall finishes allows the structural silhouette and marquetry details to stand out in contemporary spaces.

Maintain a stable relative humidity and keep the wooden cabinet away from direct heat sources or prolonged sunlight exposure. The mechanical movement requires professional horological servicing every three to five years, while the wooden case should be dusted regularly and waxed occasionally with microcrystalline polish.
