Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian pedestal desks feature twin vertical drawer pedestals supporting a flat writing top, typically inset with a leather skiver. Burr walnut was widely utilised during the mid-to-late nineteenth century due to the figure patterns formed by tree root growths.

These desks were constructed using solid oak or pine carcasses covered in burr walnut veneers, with drawer compartments assembled using hand-cut dovetail joints. Writing surfaces featured gold-tooled leather inserts, while base structures concealed castors.

Authentic Victorian examples display hand-cut dovetails within the drawers, original brass lever locks, and wear patterns along internal drawer runners. The underside reveals hand-sawn secondary timbers and original iron or brass castors beneath the plinths.

Positioning a Victorian pedestal desk in a home office provides a focal anchor when set against neutral wall finishes and contemporary lighting. Combining historical timber furniture with minimalist modern desk accessories creates a balanced interior scheme.

Apply clear beeswax along the wood grain twice yearly to protect the burr walnut veneer from drying out. Clean the leather writing surface with a slightly damp cloth, keeping the desk positioned away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
