Early C19th Irish George IV period mahogany dining table of highly flexible and adaptable form , attributed to Mack , Williams and Gibton of Dublin .

Interesting and adaptable dining table comprising of a centre section raised on a turned pedestal with four carved cabriole legs terminating with carved claw lion's hairy paw feet . The 'knee' carved with an acanthus leaf detail of distinctive off-set form . The twin d-end sections each supported on four elegantly turned and carved legs each fitted with original lacquered brass cup castors .

The central section supplied with two original end sections which fit and clip to the edges to form a free-standing breakfast or centre table when separated from the d-ends . The underside of the centre section fitted with brass bolts onto the block of the 4-splay base and an original gilded brass catch mechanism allowing the table to be tipped up . The pair of d-ends can then be used separately either as a pair of pier or side tables , or clipped together to form a free-standing table .

The edge of the table with a double 'thumb' moulded lip , and the d-ends each having with a shallow frieze .

In totally original condition, supplied with the brass securing clips .

The table top having been constructed from 4 high quality matching sections of figured and flamed mahogany panels of equal width and dimensions . The table has achieved an attractive mellow, faded patination with some marks and stains to the surface commensurate with age and use . One end of the table having faded more due to exposure to sunlight , but importantly retaining its original 'skin' and patina of age . Would comfortably seat 8 diners .

A rare model of table with its distinctive features and design which can recognised and firmly attributed to the workshops of the renowned cabinet-making firm of Mack , Williams and Gibton of Dublin, Ireland .

The firm of Mack , Williams and Gibton was formed around 1812 and flourished until the death of John Mack in 1829 . The firm is famed for its use of finest timber and its quality of workmanship is comparable to the English firm of Gillows of Lancaster.

As a new arrival to our stock , the table has not yet been cleaned and waxed in our workshops, but will be throughly prepared and sympathetically finished prior to sale .
