We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George II style seating, originating from mid-18th century Britain, is defined by vase-shaped splat backs, sweeping scrolled arms, cabriole legs, and carved decorative elements such as shell motif knees and claw-and-ball feet.

Cabinetmakers primarily used solid walnut or mahogany for the frame, constructed using traditional mortise and tenon joinery. Drop-in or upholstered seats were typically finished in silk, damask, or rich velvet fabrics.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved details, uneven joint wear from age, natural oxidisation on the timber underside, hand-cut joinery mark patterns, and historical wear across the handrests and feet.

Position the armchair alongside a minimalist modern desk or writing table to create a balanced contrast, or place it in a reading nook paired with neutral textiles and floor lighting.

Preserve the wood by applying a natural beeswax polish twice a year, dusting regularly with a soft cloth, avoiding direct heat sources, and keeping the upholstery away from direct sunlight.
