1923 Silver Tonneau Shaped Art Deco Pocket Watch

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The Vintage Wrist Watch Company

A very stylish 1923 silver tonneau shaped Art Deco pocket watch.

The watch has a stem-winding movement, Fabrique d''Horlogerie de Fontainemelon (FHF), which is working nicely. FHF was established in 1793 to supply the Swiss watch industry with ébauches (bare movements).

The watch measures 40mm wide and 40mm high excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the case back for London (import mark), 1923 with an importer''s mark for George Stockwell.

From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items, which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail.

The case is in good condition with just general surface marks from use, all very acceptable.

The watch glass has light marks but they are not too noticeable to the naked eye.

The dial is in its original finish with original hands, Art Deco stylised numbers and an inner minute track. There is some darkening to the finish but still very easy to read the time.

This is a very chic piece and would have been retailed by one of the high class jewellers, such as Aspreys or Garrard.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
