WICKWAR, Manufacturer, POLAND STREET, LONDON
An Edwardian Letters Patent Document on vellum, together with a double sided wax seal in its black laquered tin box, contained in a red morocco leather covered box with original key, stamped on the lid with the Royal Insignia. The Letters Patent Document on vellum was presented to Stuart Cunningham Macaskie* on the occasion of his becoming a King''s Counsellor. Interestingly, it was signed by Muir Mackenzie on behalf of the King on the.....'' twenty eighth day of January in the first year of our reign'' (1901), thus not giving enough time to replace the image of Queen Victoria with that of Edward VII on the wax seal. The Letters Patent document is hand written and profusely decorated with images including the Royal Coat of Arms, and is accompanied by associated documents including a hand written declaration of allegiance to be be read out by Macaskie during the ceremony.
*Stuart Cunningham Macaskie (1853-1903) Barrister & Recorder, admitted to Grays Inn Chambers in 1875, called to the Bar 1878, became a bencher at Grays Inn in 1893, the treasurer in 1899, and King''s Counsellor in 1901.
