Silver Fidelitas Pocket Watch, Blum & Ostersetzer

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The Vintage Wrist Watch Company

A silver antique Fidelitas pocket watch from Blum & Ostersetzer, 1910s.

The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Fidelitas mark which was registered by Blum & Ostersetzer (also known as the Alba Watch Company) in 1897.

The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover. The cover has a couple of words scratched into it, possibly a previous owner''s name, and the word Mi-Chronometre. This was probably a sales gimmick as when this particular watch was manufactured, the word chronometre was not protected and standards had not been defined which means anyone could make a claim to a watch''s chronometer status.

The watch measures 55mm diameter and is silver. There are Continental hallmarks for 800 silver inside both of the case backs, and the Fidelitas mark. Overall the case is in good condition, just a couple of fairly minor indentations, and some rubbing to the engine turned detail which is quite normal in a watch of this age.

The watch glass is in good condition.

The signed dial looks good to the naked eye. If viewed through a magnifying glass, there are a couple of faint hairline cracks. The pin-set ornate hands are a very handsome feature of this watch, and a style which was very popular in Scandinavia in the early 1900s.

The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
