A fine silver kovsh with a garlanded horse’s head handle, set with one large and one small cabochon cut amethyst. The stones are of excellent quality having a good dark colour. A magnificent quality piece, with the original fire-gilt interior and elegant reeded borders.
Marked with the maker’s mark for Faberge workmaster Alexander Julius Rappoport who was active between 1851 and 1917, and with the right facing combined koloshnic/zolotnik mark in use between 1908 and 1926, with the tiny ‘a’ for St. Petersburg. Silver standard 84 zolotnics (875/100 purity).
Carl Faberge was a designer and businessman who also outsourced work to twenty-two workmasters who oversaw production, some of them in their own workshops that supplied the Faberge shops.
Condition: In superb collector’s condition with no damage or repair and no chips or nibbles to the amethysts, the original gilding lustrous.
