Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Pembroke table is a type of small drop-leaf table developed in the mid-to-late eighteenth century, designed for occasional use such as tea, writing, or bedside placement. Named according to tradition after the Countess of Pembroke, the design features hinged flaps supported by hinged wooden brackets known as fly brackets.

Traditional Pembroke tables were constructed using fine hardwoods such as mahogany, satinwood, and rosewood. High-grade veneers, contrasting crossbanding, ebony or boxwood stringing, and solid turned or tapered wooden legs are defining characteristics of period construction.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, original rule joints along the drop-leaf hinges, and authentic aged patina across the timber. Examining the underside reveals hand-sawn timber marks and traditional wooden fly-bracket mechanisms.

A Pembroke table functions well as a compact sofa side table, an entryway accent, or a nightstand. Opening one or both flaps provides flexible surface area for lamps and books while preserving floor space in smaller rooms.

Maintain satinwood surfaces by dusting regularly with a dry, soft cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent warping and excessive fading of the veneer.
