Originating in Austria and Germany during the nineteenth century, Vienna regulators are pendulum-driven timepieces recognised for their precision timekeeping and glazed case designs. Spring-driven variants became popular in the late nineteenth century, featuring serpentine cases with ebonised accents and turned finials.

Cases were typically crafted from walnut or mahogany veneers with ebonised wooden mouldings. The internal mechanism features brass movement plates, a glazed front door, an enamel dial with Roman numerals, and a brass pendulum.

Authentic Gustav Becker clocks feature the makers mark stamped directly onto the rear brass movement plate, usually depicting an anchor with the initials G.B. or P.S.F.. Serial numbers stamped below the logo can also help determine the period of manufacture.

A vertical pendulum clock creates a central visual accent when mounted on a narrow wall space, within a hallway, or above a sideboard. The contrast between warm walnut and black ebonised mouldings pairs well with both period furnishings and modern neutral colour schemes.
