Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian dining chairs from the mid-to-late nineteenth century often reflect historical revival styles, including Gothic, Rococo, and Neoclassical movements. Designs evolved from heavy carving in the early period to lighter balloon-back and open-arched frame shapes in later decades.

Dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and rosewood were predominantly used due to their structural stability and deep colour. Seats were traditionally stuffed with horsehair and upholstered in wool, silk damask, velvet, or leather over wooden seat rails.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand-finishing, timber shrinkage around joints, and traditional mortise and tenon joinery. Original brass castors on turned front legs and natural oxidation on unpolished undersides also assist in authenticating period origin.

Combining nineteenth-century mahogany chairs with a modern minimalist dining table creates a balanced contemporary scheme. Re-upholstering the seats in contemporary neutral linen or structured geometric fabrics offers an updated aesthetic while preserving the historic timber frame.

Apply a high-quality beeswax polish twice a year following the natural timber grain to preserve the wood finish. Keep chairs away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, joint loosening, and fabric fading.
