Description

Good Georgian mahogany tripod occasional table with finely carved fluted vase column and one piece top some of the images are with wax on this does help cut out the glare others images show buffed finish.

The table has had loose joints and bearers tightened the table retains original

finish which I have cleaned and waxed this table is a very good example of its type.

Originating in the 18th century, Georgian tripod tables feature a circular top supported by a central turned column and three down-swept legs. Designed to be easily moved, these versatile pieces were frequently used for tea service, reading, or supporting lamps.

Dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany was the primary timber used during the 18th century due to its stability, fine grain, and rich colour. Construction involved hand-turned central columns and hand-fitted dovetail joints to secure the legs.

Authentic period pieces display slight irregularities from hand-carving, original iron bearer straps beneath the leg junction, and hand-cut dovetails on the mounting block. Hand-planed mark lines on the underside of the table top also indicate period construction.

Position a tripod table alongside an armchair or sofa to serve as a functional side table for books or drinks. Its slender central pedestal and compact footprint make it suitable for filling narrow alcoves or unused room corners.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish twice yearly to protect the finish. Position the table away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent wood movement or surface fading.
