Victorian marine painting emerged during the nineteenth century as artists documented coastal commerce, naval history, and dramatic seascapes. Influenced by Dutch Golden Age masters, British and European painters focused on realistic light reflections, atmospheric clouds, and detailed depictions of contemporary sailing craft.
