Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, the sofa table was designed to stand directly behind a sofa. It provided a surface for reading, writing, or tea service, often featuring hinged side flaps to extend the surface area as needed.

Primary timbers included solid mahogany and fine mahogany veneers, often detailed with ebony stringing or brass inlay. Secondary woods for drawer linings typically included oak or pine, while brass was used for castors and drawer handles.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed drawer bottoms, original brass caps or castors, and period-correct proportions. The timber exhibits natural oxidisation and patination on unvarnished areas beneath the tabletop and inside drawer frames.

Place the table directly behind a central living room sofa or against a long wall in an entrance hall. The drop leaves can be extended for functionality or folded down to suit narrower spaces.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year along the grain. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and damp environments to prevent wood movement and veneer lifting.
