A truly stunning and very rare Tiffany & Co. sterling silver salt tub in the shape of a butterfly, sitting on four feet, and embossed with a small butterfly on the underneath. This embossed butterfly can also be seen on the inside of the tub, and has retained the original, lemony yellow gilded wash interior. The spoon is equally stunning with a pretty spray of foliage engraved on the handle. On the back the spoon is marked ‘Tiffany & Co, Sterling’. The salt is clearly marked on the underneath of the tub: ‘Tiffany & Co, Sterling’ along with the Production No: ‘5248M332’ (see photo). The letter M denotes that this tub was designed and created under the directorship of Edward Moore, the silversmith who guided Tiffany''s silver manufacture from 1873 to 1891. Moore was an avid collector of art and objects from the Near and Far East and his knowledge of Eastern art combined with his superb design skills brought Tiffany to the forefront of American silver manufacturers.
