We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A centre table is an item of furniture crafted to be finished and viewed from all sides, historically positioned in the middle of a room or entrance hall. Satinwood became highly favoured during the late 18th and 19th centuries for its golden lustre, fine grain, and suitability for marquetry work.

Pieces from this era typically feature a solid hardwood framework overlaid with thin satinwood veneers, decorated with painted motifs or inlaid crossbanding. Construction features often include hand-cut dovetail joints, tapered square or turned legs, curved cross-stretchers, and original brass castors.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-saw marks on timber undersides, natural surface patination, and minor irregularities in hand-cut inlays or painted details. Examining the frame reveals age-appropriate shrinkage in the timber and genuine brass fittings with historic oxidisation.

Position the table in a grand entry foyer or living space as an anchor piece, styled simply with a ceramic vessel or curated books. The light golden hue of satinwood complements both dark classic walls and contemporary neutral palettes.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to avoid veneer lifting and discolouration. Dust regularly with a clean microfiber cloth and apply a microcrystalline wax or beeswax polish sparingly to maintain the protective coat.
