Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Decanter labels, also known as bottle tickets, originated in Britain during the eighteenth century following the introduction of clear lead crystal decanters. Prior to this, opaque glass and stoneware bottles made visual identification of wine and spirits difficult, prompting silversmiths to create small engraved metal plaques attached by chains.

The majority of traditional decanter labels were crafted from sterling silver, silver plate, or Sheffield plate, with other examples made from enamel, gold, or mother-of-pearl. Construction typically involved die-stamped or cast metal plaques finished with hand engraving and fitted with fine chain loops for suspension.

Authentic silver decanter labels feature official British assay office hallmarks, including the lion passant for sterling silver quality, a makers mark, an assay town symbol, and a date letter. Examine the reverse or front edge of the plaque for these stamped marks to verify metal purity and age.

Display silver decanter labels suspended around the necks of glass or crystal decanters on a drinks trolley, tray, or sideboard top. Pairing labelled decanters with contemporary glassware creates an engaging contrast within modern bar styling.

Maintain silver decanter labels by gently wiping them with a soft cotton cloth and a specialized silver polishing cream. Avoid submerging delicate chain links in abrasive cleaning solutions, and store the items in tarnish-resistant cloth covers when not in use.
