A mid victorian oak cased mercury action stick barometer made by j.h.steward of 66 the strand,london(w.1869-88 at this address).

Enamelled glass inverted scales with double vernier marker.rare minimum and maximum thermometer below.stepped moulded edge top to the case and turned cistern cover to the base.fully overhauled.measures 39"long X 5"wide X 4"deep.

*james henry steward worked at various addresses on the strand and cornhill between 1857-1900.

Listed in banfields barometer book as 'a prolific barometer maker in th 19th century.celebrated telescope and fitzroy barometer maker as used in the railway terminals and principle london hotels'.
