In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency sarcophagus wine cooler, also known as a cellaret, is a freestanding wooden container produced during the early 19th century. Its tapered profile was inspired by classical Roman sarcophagi, designed to hold ice and chill wine bottles in dining rooms prior to modern refrigeration.

These pieces were typically crafted from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over oak or pine frames. The interiors were lined with lead or zinc to hold meltwater and ice, while exterior fittings included cast brass side handles and escutcheons.

Authentic Regency cellarets feature heavy mahogany construction, classical architectural moldings, hand-dovetailed joints, and original metal liners or drain plugs. The presence of lion-mask ring handles and carved paw or bun feet are also standard features of the era.

A sarcophagus cellaret functions as an accent storage chest in a formal dining space, hallway, or living room. It can be positioned beneath a sideboard or in an alcove to serve as a decorative container or beverage storage piece.

The exterior timber should be waxed periodically with natural beeswax to retain moisture and polish. The metal interior lining should be kept dry and clean to prevent oxidisation and corrosion of the surrounding woodwork.
