Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Regency period in early 19th-century Britain, wine coolers and cellarettes were specialized dining room furniture pieces designed to hold ice and chill bottles of wine or champagne during formal meals. Often constructed in classical shapes such as sarcophagi, they reflected the periods interest in Greco-Roman design.

Regency wine coolers were constructed from solid mahogany or timber veneers, chosen for their dense grain and warm colour. The interiors were fitted with a removable lead or zinc lining to hold meltwater and shield the surrounding woodwork from humidity.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut joinery, period-correct wood shrinkage, and hand-carved classical architectural motifs such as egg-and-dart moulding or acanthus details. The presence of original or historically accurate metal liners and dark patinated timber surfaces further indicates age.

In a contemporary setting, an open wine cooler or jardiniere can function as a decorative planter for indoor botanical displays on a sideboard or console table. It can also serve as a storage trough for logs beside a fireplace or hold ice during social gatherings.

Maintain the timber by applying a natural beeswax polish twice yearly, avoiding modern aerosol sprays that accumulate residue. Wipe any metal liners thoroughly dry after contact with moisture to prevent oxidation and protect the cabinet frame.
