A Fabulous American Vintage Wooden Refrigerator or Ice Box from the late 19th Century
A superb piece of Social History, made by “L H Mace & Co New York”, this piece known as the “Puritan” would have been found in the most wealthy of Houses, I do understand that there are companies who will convert pieces like this to electricity for modern daily use
The Cabinet is made in solid oak with applied carved decoration, the brass fittings are also very decorative. The Fridge has 2 opening doors to the top section, and similar to the shelved bottom section, at the very bottom there is a further opening to collect the thawed ice
The interior is zinc lined and fully plumbed to make best use of the ice to chill the contents, the bottom section is shelved, the Fridge is in excellent condition for its age it is in excellent working order “no electricity required”
The Ice Box is 54” high, 37” wide and 23” deep
