Description

Important fine mid georgian 8 day liverpool longcase clock as shown in the book 'clockmakers of northern england'.superb flame mahogany case with reeded columns repeated to the moulded edge door hood.fretted swan neck pediment to the top.canted corner base with fine herringbone inlay above.standing on bracket feet.brass and silvered arched top dial with engraved centre enclosing seconds count and date aperture.gilt spandrels to the corners.rolling moon to the top arch.strikes on a bell to the hour.made by issac hadwen junior.c.1760.full details of this highly regarded maker on page 133 and 134 with two illustrations of this clock.described as'fine mahogany case of the hadwen of liverpool clock standing 7'7"tall'.good small proportions.

Superb colour and original condition.full working order.

*liverpool in the mid to late 18th century was the most important port in this country and had access to the finest woods from abroad.the best clockmakers were situated there due to the wealth of the area*
