A very small and highly desirable English Fusee Ormolu & Gilt brass Marble mantel clock by this well known maker.
The high quality and substantial 8 day duration single fusee chain driven movement with anchor escapement. The 3½'' round gilt brass dial with Roman chapters, exquisitely made heart shaped blued steel hands of typical Payne design and a machine turned centre. The dial enclosed within a glazed bezel. The double marble plinth with adjustable gilt brass feet, swag and flower design to the front elevation and the drum shaped top resting on gilt scrolls.
Note: William Payne & Co of 163 New Bond Street are recorded as working from 1826-1875. Benjamin Lewis Vulliamy was also using this particular style of clock at this period.
