Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Tea caddies were designed to store and preserve valuable loose tea leaves under lock and key during eras when tea was an expensive luxury commodity. Throughout the nineteenth century, these containers served as both functional household items and status symbols displayed in prominent living spaces.

High-end tea caddies were frequently crafted from exotic hardwoods such as coromandel, mahogany, or rosewood, often adorned with cast or cut brass mounts. The interiors typically featured contrasting wood veneers like satinwood, along with foil linings or removable wooden canisters to maintain tea freshness.

Authentic period pieces display period-appropriate craftsmanship, including hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass escutcheons, and natural wear around the lock mechanism. The presence of natural wood grain variations, aged patination on metalwork, and original interior canisters also indicates historical authenticity.

An antique tea caddy functions well as a decorative focal point when placed atop a sideboard, console table, or bookshelf. Its rich timber tones and brass detail add textural contrast alongside modern ceramics, contemporary artwork, or stacked art books.

Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement or veneer lifting. Maintain the woodwork using a high-grade natural beeswax polish applied with a soft microfibre cloth, while taking care not to let polish accumulate around the decorative brass mounts.
