Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian glazed bookcase is a wooden storage cabinet produced during the 19th century, designed to store and display books or decorative items behind glass doors. These cabinets were traditionally crafted from dark hardwoods like mahogany or walnut and featured classical detailing, such as pediments and panelled bases.

These bookcases were constructed using solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers over softwood timber frames. Key components included hand-blown float glass panels, hand-carved decorative trim, dovetail joints, and solid brass locks and hinges.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut joinery inside drawer boxes, secondary timbers like pine or oak for interior carcases, and slight waves in the glass panes. Natural wear along base plinths, original brass keyhole escutcheons, and unpainted backs also help confirm 19th-century origin.

Place the bookcase against a light or textured neutral wall to highlight the rich mahogany timber. Arrange books alongside contemporary pottery, glassware, or framed art inside the glazed section to create a balanced visual mix between traditional and modern aesthetics.

Position the cabinet away from direct heat sources and sunlight to stop timber shrinkage and veneer movement. Dust surfaces with a soft microfibre cloth and apply beeswax periodically to maintain the timber finish and protection.
