Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Maritime oil paintings concentrate on nautical themes, featuring ocean vessels, naval battles, coastal scenes, and maritime trade. The genre emphasizes accurate depictions of ship architecture, rigging details, water movement, and atmospheric sky conditions.

Artists traditionally applied oil-based pigments mixed with linseed oil onto stretched linen or cotton canvas, as well as wooden panels. Frames were typically carved from hardwood and finished with dark stains, black lacquers, or gilded gesso details.

Authentic period pieces show natural surface craquelure consistent with age, proper pigment oxidisation, and original stretcher bars or backings. Artist signatures, gallery labels, or stencil marks on the reverse side of the canvas also assist in verification.

Position the artwork as a focal point above a mantlepiece, sideboard, or within a gallery wall arrangement. Combining dark-framed marine paintings with classic wooden furniture, brass accents, and neutral paint shades enhances traditional or contemporary spaces.

Keep the artwork away from direct sunlight, excess humidity, and direct heat sources to prevent cracking or fading. Dust gently using a dry, soft-bristled brush, and consult a professional conservator for varnish removal or surface repairs.
