Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Dutch Golden Age marine painting emerged in the 17th century, focusing on realistic depictions of maritime trade, naval vessels, and coastal landscapes. These works are characterized by detailed ship anatomy, dramatic weather phenomena, and atmospheric sky composition.

Artisans used ground oil pigments painted onto seasoned solid wood panels, predominantly oak or pine, or stretched canvas. The finished artwork was typically framed in carved or moulded timber frames coated in plaster gesso and gold leaf.

Authentic period panel paintings usually display age-consistent craquelure throughout the paint layer, bevelled edges along the reverse of the wooden panel, and natural timber shrinkage. Frame construction techniques and historical artist signatures or monogram marks also provide key identification evidence.

A traditional seascape functions effectively as a focal point above a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard, or within a gallery wall setup. Pairing the warm tones of the gilt frame against contemporary neutral or deep dark wall paint creates an elegant visual contrast.

Position the painting away from direct sunlight, artificial heat sources, and areas with high humidity, which can cause the wood panel to warp or split. Gently dust the frame and surface with a dry, soft-bristled brush, avoiding water or chemical cleaning solvents.
