Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian silver-mounted decanter is a glass vessel produced during the reign of Queen Victoria, featuring a solid silver collar, neck, or spout. These vessels were crafted to hold and serve spirits or wine at formal gatherings.

Late Victorian decanters were typically crafted from hand-blown or cut lead crystal glass, paired with sterling silver or silver-plated mounts. Stopper designs often incorporated matching glass or cork linings.

Authenticity is verified by checking the silver collar for official British hallmarks, which indicate the silver purity, assay office, date letter, and makers mark. Additionally, hand-blown glass from this era may exhibit slight asymmetric variations or a finished pontil mark on the underside.

Place the decanter on a polished wooden sideboard or silver tray inside a drinks cabinet alongside classic glassware. The combination of reflective silver and clear glass adds structured elegance to both traditional dining rooms and contemporary bar carts.

Clean the interior glass using lukewarm water, mild soap, and flexible cleaning beads to remove residue without scratching. Polish the silver collar gently with a specialist silver cloth, avoiding abrasive chemicals that could harm surrounding glass surfaces.
