Villeroy & Boch Delft Ormolu Wall Sconce, C.1895

Description

A fine late 19th century period Delft and ormolu wall sconce by Villeroy & Boch. Fully marked verso.

The sconce is of very good proportions, with. the central arched cartouche depicting a large central scene of a Italianate villa with sweeping outdoor steps and a central fountain, a harbour lined with ships and two cloaked figures to the fore, pointing towards the boats. The lower cartouche boasts a further finely depicted scene of playful putti in a pastoral scene.

Two detachable ormolu candle arms, each ornately cast with the holder of each taking the form of slightly melted wax.
