Pair of Antique Georgian Period Mahogany Wine Tables

19th century
Description

A very early and absolutely gorgeous pair of antique Georgian period mahogany wine tables. They were made in England, we would date them from around the 1790’s period.

They are of superb quality, solid mahogany throughout, and are a very useful size. They are perfect for resting drinks and objects, they are petite and easy to move around. The circular tops have slightly lipped edges, they stand on tripod bases, and are sturdy and sound.

We have had them recently re-polished, the condition is excellent for their age. They retain a beautiful and deep patina, with various small old marks and bumps remaining beneath the polish. One of the legs has a historical repair near the end of the foot, seen in the images and barely noticeable.

Width base – 18 inches , 46 cm

Width top – 12 inches , 30 cm

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in eighteenth-century Britain, a wine table is a small occasional table specifically designed to hold a decanter, glass, or candle alongside a chair or sofa.

These tables were primarily crafted from dense mahogany, featuring turned central pillars, hand-carved joinery, and solid tripod leg configurations.

Authentic period pieces often feature signs of hand-planing underneath the top, hand-cut dovetails on the underside housing block, and slight oval shrinkage in the circular timber top over time.

Position these compact pieces beside an armchair or sofa to serve as functional drinks stands, or place them symmetrically within a formal seating area.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice yearly, keeping the timber positioned away from direct heat sources and radiators.
