Antique Georgian Period Mahogany Side Table

19th century
Description

A wonderful antique Georgian period mahogany side table. This was made in England, it dates from around 1800-1820 period.

It is a lovely size and is full of character. The mahogany has a gorgeous colour tone and a lovely patina, with some small surface marks here and there beneath the polish. The top slightly overhangs and has beautiful cross banded edges in rosewood. There is a single drawer with turned mahogany handles, and this has a nicely polished back, so it can be used as a free standing item.

We have had this re-polished and revived, it is in good overall condition and structurally sound, while retaining plenty of original patina.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian period side tables are recognised for their classical proportions, balance, and solid wood craftsmanship. Originating in 18th-century Britain, these tables frequently incorporate turned or tapered legs, clean rectangular surfaces, and practical drawer storage.

Mahogany was the preeminent timber utilised during the Georgian era due to its strength and rich tone, alongside native woods such as oak, walnut, pine, and satinwood.

Authentic Georgian furniture generally features hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, hand-planed secondary timbers, naturally aged patination, and original iron or brass locks.

A Georgian side table can function as a nightstand beside a contemporary bed, sit beside a sofa, or serve as a compact desk in a hallway to introduce warm wood tones into modern schemes.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically along the direction of the grain, while avoiding direct heat sources and direct sunlight.
