Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The vitrine cabinet originated in 18th-century France during the reign of Louis XV. Designed to display precious curio collections, ceramics, and personal valuables, these glass-fronted cabinets became standard pieces in wealthy European households throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries.

French Revival vitrines from the early 20th century typically feature walnut or mahogany veneers, fitted marble tops, and cast gilt-bronze or brass mounts. The interiors feature glass shelving paired with mirrored or silk-lined back panels to maximize light reflection.

Authenticity can be determined by examining the construction, such as hand-cut joinery, thick wood veneers, heavy cast metal mounts with crisp detail, and original fitted marble tops displaying natural veining and historical underside hand-cutting.

A vitrine cabinet serves as a focal piece when placed in a dining room, hallway, or living space. Style the interior glass shelves with curated collections of monochrome ceramics, antique glassware, or modern sculptures to balance traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetic tastes.

Clean the marble top using a pH-neutral stone cleaner and buff dry immediately. Preserve the walnut veneer by applying a natural beeswax polish twice yearly, and clean glass panels using a lint-free microfibre cloth lightly dampened with water or specialized glass cleaner, avoiding contact with metal mounts.
